SACRAMENTO – Today, Sierra Health Foundation announced an investment of $1 million to support the expansion of Community Economic Mobilization Initiative (CEMI) technical assistance, capacity building and power building activations with grantee partners throughout the state.
The Center at Sierra Health Foundation, which operates the initiative, has leveraged the foundation’s $3 million total investment over three years into $21.2 million from a collaborative of philanthropic partners.

Hewitt, President and CEO of Sierra Health Foundation. “Sierra Health Foundation is proud to deepen our investment in this initiative to close the gap between capacity and opportunity for nonprofit organizations working at the nexus of health equity and economic inclusion in their communities.”
California is receiving an unprecedented level of federal investments to strengthen its climate resiliency, transportation infrastructure and housing needs. The Center developed CEMI to build knowledge and capacity within California nonprofits and tribal communities, equipping them to receive and influence how and where these dollars will be invested. This $1 million investment further strengthens the ability of underserved communities to achieve Justice 40 goals that seek to reduce longstanding economic, environmental and health inequities in underserved communities.
